Medical Assistance Eligibility for Children
The following are ways children may become eligible for RI Medical Assistance coverage:
RIte Care RIte Care is Rhode Island’s health insurance program for families on the Family Independence Program and for uninsured pregnant women, children and families who meet the income criteria. It provides comprehensive health care through enrollment in one of three participating health plans. See RIte Care.
RIte Share RIte Share is Rhode Island’s health insurance premium assistance program that helps families with children pay for all or part of their share of their employer’s health insurance. See RIte Share.
Katie Beckett Katie Beckett is an eligibility category in the RI Medical Assistance Program. Children under the age of 19 who have serious disabling conditions, meet the level of care criteria, and live at home may be eligible for Medical Assistance through Katie Beckett. Parents’ income and resources do not count when determining eligibility for the child. See Katie Beckett.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Children who are eligible for SSI receive a monthly payment and are eligible for Medical Assistance services and benefits. Eligibility is based on the child’s disability, as determined by the Social Security Administration, and the family’s income. See Social Security Administration.
DCYF's Adoption Subsidy Program Children may also be eligible for the RI Medical Assistance Program through the DCYF’s Adoption Subsidy Program. See DCYF website.
