Medical Assistance Dental Services

The Rhode Island Medical Assistance Program covers dental services for children
under age 21.

Who's Eligible

  • Children who have Medical Assistance coverage (RIte Care, RIte Share or Medical Assistance fee-for-service) and were born before May 1, 2000. Children born after May 1, 2000 are eligible for RIte Smiles.
  • Children who have Medical Assistance coverage and live in a residential facility.

How to Apply

There is no need to apply for Medical Assistance dental services. When a child (born before May 1, 2000) is determined eligible for Medical Assistance, they receive a white Medical Assistance ID card in the mail. Families need to call to see if a dentist accepts Medical Assistance coverage first. See the list of Dental Providers Accepting Medical Assistance below. Be sure to bring your child’s Medical Assistance ID card with you to the dentist’s office.
