Rehabilitation Services (ORS)
The DHS Office of Rehabilitation Services
provides Rhode Islanders who have disabilities (a disability) with a comprehensive program
of rehabilitation, social and independent living services. To fulfill its mission of
empowering individuals with disabilities to choose, prepare for, obtain and maintain
employment, economic self-sufficiency, independence and integration into society, ORS

Vocational
Rehabilitation (VR)
The ORS Vocational Rehabilitation program was
designed to assist individuals who have a disability, making it difficult for them to
work, to choose, prepare for, find and maintain employment.
Services for the
Blind and Visually Impaired (SBVI)
The ORS Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired program, in addition to vocational
rehabilitation, offers a variety of training and adjustment services for individuals who
are blind or who have significant visual impairments, that will help them become
independent, active, self-sufficient members of their community.
Disability
Determination Services (DDS)
The ORS Disability Determination Services unit determines the medical eligibility of
children and adults with disabilities who are applying for cash benefits under the federal
program for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income
(SSI).
Assistive
Technology Access Partnership (ATAP)
The ORS administers the federally funded Rhode Island project , Assistive Technology
Access Partnership, which was designed to remove barriers and increase access to assistive
technology devices and services for individuals with disabilities. For more information, please visit
