In addition to providing services for families and children,
the DHS also provides a number of services and programs for adults, including adults with
disabilities. Helping families and individuals maintain independence and thrive in their
community is DHS vision for all Rhode Islanders. For additional services and

Medical Assistance Program:
Medical Assistance is available for adults with disabilities who receive Supplemental
Security Income (SSI) and other adults who may qualify based on income or medical need.

Long Term Care:
Long Term Care services are available for eligible adults with disabilities who require
home and/or community based services. Institutional care is available if care at home or
in the community is not possible.

General Public Assistance:
Limited prescription medications and doctors office visits may be available for
qualifying adults with very low incomes.
|
Food Stamps:
The Food Stamp Program provides supplemental food income for families and individuals in
need. Eligibility and the amount of the food stamp benefits depend on the size of your
family, your income and other resources. Qualifying individuals get an ATM card that can
be used to purchase food at most supermarkets.

Medicare
Premium Payment Program:
Rhode Islander adults who receive Medicare may qualify to have part or all of their
deductible or copayments for Medicare paid for by the state.

Title XX Homemaker Program
This program provides homemaker services and/or personal care assistance to individuals on
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) who do not qualify for one of the Home and
Community-Based Waiver programs.

SSI Assisted Living Program
This program provides enhanced Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments to Assisted
Living Facilities for those individuals who require supervision in a residential setting.
|
RI Organ Transplant Fund
This supplemental program can help to offset the non-reimbursed costs associated with
organ transplants, such as medications. This program is available for RI residents only.
