Services for Elderly Rhode Islanders

Elderly Couple

Rhode Island has a large number of elderly citizens, many of whom may require assistance at some point to maintain or enhance their quality of life. The DHS provides the following services to eligible elderly Rhode Islanders. For additional services and programs see below or click on Other Programs and Services.

 

Medical Assistance Program:
Medical Assistance is available for individuals over age 65 who qualify.

 

Long Term Care:
Long Term Care services are available for adults over age 65 who require home or community based services. Institutional care is available if care at home or in the community is not possible.

 

Food Stamps:
The Food Stamp Program provides supplemental food income for single or married individuals over age 60. Eligibility and the amount of the food stamp benefits depend on the size of your family, your income and other resources. Qualifying individuals get an ATM card that can be used to purchase food at most supermarkets.

 

Medicare Premium Payment Program:
Rhode Islanders over age 65 who receive Medicare may qualify to have part or all of their deductible or copayments for Medicare paid for by the state.

 

Title XX Homemaker Program:
This program provides homemaker services and/or personal care assistance to individuals on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) who do not qualify for one of the Home and Community-Based Waiver programs.

 

SSI Assisted Living Program:
This program provides enhanced Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments to Assisted Living Facilities for those individuals who require supervision in a residential setting.
