RI Works Red Book

The Rhode Island Works Program assists needy families to prepare for, accept and retain employment with necessary supports, as quickly as possible, and is the law through which the Federal assistance program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), is available to families in Rhode Island who meet program eligibility criteria.

The primary goal for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is to provide families in need with a combination of financial assistance and work opportunities so that they can eventually become independent.

The Red Book is a resource manual for the Department to assist Rhode Island Works (RIW) parents in selecting appropriate work preparation activities as part of their Employment Plans and contains the programs that the Department of Human Services funds.
